Your Metal Roofing Solution

While many people believe that metal roofs are only for use in commercial roofing applications, that isn’t the case anymore. Because of its many benefits, more people are looking to have a metal roof installed on their homes. At South Peak, our Lethbridge roofers are experts at installing metal roofs on residential homes.

Typically, those roofs are made up of one of the following profiles:

Corrugated Roofing

One option for a residential metal roof is corrugated sheet metal, also known as ribbed profile. This is one of the most common metal roof systems installed. One reason for that is because there are so many different options available, including steel gauge and colour.

The gauge refers to the thickness of the metal. We typically install 29 gauge but can also do 26 or 24 depending on the colour and profile.

Standing Seam Roof

The standing seam profile is often seen on commercial or high-end residential properties. Because its fasteners are hidden, it produces a sleek and clean look. In addition to the variety of colours and its typical 26 gauge, standing seam offers a range of choices to customers.

You can choose from snap-lock, mechanical seam, batten panels, and nail/fastener flange. Not every option will work for every roof. The type of roof you have, the slope, and several other factors can play a role in which option is best for your metal roof.

Benefits Of A Metal Roofing

Metal roofing products, like steel and aluminum, all have their benefits. The most significant advantage is its longevity. If taken care of correctly, a metal roof could last up to 50 years.

When properly installed, a metal roof can seal water out, it isn’t impacted as much by high winds and in the winter, it will quickly shed snow. Furthermore, a metal roof is fire resistant and will not rot, mould, or attract pests.

Maintenance is relatively simple, though you will need to call in a professional roofing company. Every 10 to 12 years, all of the fasteners should be changed. This is because the rubber stopper on the fastener can dry out over time, which can cause a roof leak if left unattended.
